Iva Butz Romig, 1928

Iva Butz Romig, 1/18/1928

Once again we are, "On board the S/S Megantic, 1/18/28 On route to Havana." This time we're looking at Iva Butz Romig at the age of 24.

Iva shocked her mother, Ida, a year or two earlier by "bobbing" her hair (cutting it short in the new style of the Roaring 20s). One supposes Iva shocked her mother a lot: that coat looks expensive and extravagant when viewed next to Ida's winter wear in the previous image. We must also wonder what book Iva found interesting enough to take with her on a Caribbean cruise--or could that be a bible?

As mentioned previously, the cruise was arranged by Iva's elder brother Edgar (20 years her senior) in order to help Iva meet eligible bachelors. The trip was partially successful: Iva found the young ship's doctor eligible enough to meet in a broom closet for a tryst, but not eligible enough to marry.

Marriage, for Iva, would have to wait another 5 years.
